Compass point to the Breakwater – Bude
This small cove is accessible from Bude at low water or along a dodgy sheep track from the coast path 300 yds past the lookout. It gives access to the Upton stretch but only if you are experienced in coastering. Going around these rocks is dangerous. The cove has some excellent rocks at very low tide with significant cracks and crevices to explore. The geology here provides considerable variety in rock height and these shelter lots of animals and give diversity. This is a low tide location as the cobbles limit the upper and mid shore life found. Nearest facilities are in Bude with ample parking.
Explore with a friend at low tide and try and see under the big boulders looking for sea squirts and slugs. Crawl about in the gullies and you never know what might turn up. This is definately one to hunt but only if you know what you are doing.
